Berkeley County Receives Additional $27.5 Million to Fund Road Improvements

Clements Ferry and College Park Projects Receive CHATS Funding

(MONCKS CORNER, SC) —- Berkeley County officials announced today that the Charleston Area Transportation Study (CHATS) committee has granted the County an additional $27.5 million in funding designated for road improvements.  The funding was awarded to viable “federal aid eligible” projects currently underway.  Berkeley County will receive the monies to help support two road widening projects which qualify for the funding: Clements Ferry Road Phase 1 and College Park Road.

“Berkeley County met the requirements for funding because we had eligible projects already in progress,” explains Dan Davis, Berkeley County Supervisor. “I want to thank and credit the citizens of Berkeley County who voted for the one-cent sales tax referendum in 2008.  This will allow us to expand the scope of our transportation sales tax program. The additional $27.5 million would not have been possible without the confidence of our voters and support of our ambitious staff to initiate the promised road improvements.”

These additional funds will afford Berkeley County the opportunity to better enhance and leverage the one-cent sales tax program.

“We are excited to move forward and I will personally continue to seek supplemental state and federal funding to help further preserve the safety and protect well-being of our citizens,” concludes Davis.
